On the third day of our Japan trip in Hokkaido, we woke up early for another amazing breakfast downstairs on the third floor of the Mercure Hotel for a hot continental breakfast.  As I had already blogged about it on the second day of our trip, I raved about all the amazing selections that this continental breakfast buffet had.   Continue reading

Green Lemon Grass pho

Green Lemon Grass located at 9425 Leslie St in Richmond Hill (inside Richlane Mall)

I had a really bad first impression of this restaurant called Green Lemon Grass South East Asian Cuisine (香茅咖喱屋).  My mom and I dined here on a Sunday afternoon for an early dinner.  We arrived at 5 p.m.  Green Lemon Grass South East Asian Cuisine is located inside the Richlane Mall on Lesile Street north of 16th Avenue in Richmond Hill.  They serve Vietnamese pho and other South East Asian dishes.   Continue reading

Hand Pulled Noodles at Big Beef Bowl [Defunct]

Big Beef Bowl

Big Beef Bowl located at 1 Byng Street

Mmm, Big Beef Bowl (大牛碗).  This was an amazing lunch of northern-style (Lan zhou style) Chinese noodles!!  Ken and I headed here on a Saturday around 1 p.m.  Big Beef Bowl is located on 1 Byng Street (tucked away from Yonge Street south of Finch) in North York.  Look out for Byng Street when you are looking for it otherwise you might miss it like we did.  It’s a very simple restaurant storefront with tiny letters even for their signage.   Continue reading

One Kitchen: Huevos Rancheros

Huevos Rancheros

Huevos Rancheros from One Kitchen

For my third and last meal from One Kitchen this time around, I made the Huevos Rancheros, a traditional Mexican breakfast.  I’ve actually had this breakfast before both at a restaurant and made at home before (you can check the previous recipe here).  I chose this again to make from the meal prep service, One Kitchen, because I wanted to see how they altered and customized the recipe — since every chef and recipe is different out there.   Continue reading

Mabu Generation

Mabu Generation

Mabu Generation located at 3235 Highway 7 East, Unit 23-26 in Markham

I finally got to try Mabu Generation!  This is a Taiwanese inspired restaurant with elements of Japanese dishes on their menu.  They have a first location at Yonge and Finch called Mabu Station.  Mabu Generation is an extension of their store but in the Markham area!  I was so excited to try this place out finally with Tracy when we had dinner there last Friday.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: The Road Taken

sewer cover in Gyeongpo Beach

Gyeongpo Beach, South Korea. September 2016

This week, “show us something that surprised or delighted you on ‘the road taken’.”  I thought about this interesting and cute discovery that I saw when walking around Gyeongpo Beach in South Korea last September.  This is sewer cover that had the outline of a caricature on it!  I don’t recognize where it’s from although it looks like Toroto the anime.   Continue reading

Moroccan Style Chicken Thighs with Couscous & Apricot Sauce

Moroccan Style Chicken Thighs with Couscous & Apricot Sauce from One Kitchen

The second meal that I made from One Kitchen, a pre-portioned easy-to-make meal prep subscription delivery company, was the Moroccan Style Chicken Thighs with Couscous & Apricot Sauce.  This had a difficulty level of “easy” and would take 30 minutes to prepare.  It was a Moroccan cuisine that I was very excited to cook and eat! 🙂   Continue reading
