Summerlicious 2013 Restaurant #4: The Rosedale Diner

There was a Spiderman figurine in the corner that watched everybody eat.

My friend suggested going to The Rosedale Diner after seeing it shown on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network.  Unfortunately, or fortunately, I don’t have this channel — I would probably be watching it 24/7 to scope out where the best eats are.  When we arrived at this place, it turned out to be a hole-in-the-wall kind of place.   Continue reading

Almost done teaching at CCVS

My students are so awesome.  This is the last weekend before I leave for my trip on Tuesday and the last week where they have to submit their progress reports since I’m leaving.  Instead of choosing to be bitter about having to finish the course earlier than anticipated, they all wished me good luck and to have an amazing trip in China.  They’re so wonderful. 🙂 With that said, I have 16 dictation and test submissions (so far) to mark this weekend plus all (10) of their progress reports.   Continue reading

Summerlicious 2013 Restaurant #3: Pan on the Danforth

Pan on the Danforth located at 516 Danforth Avenue in Toronto

The other Greek restaurant that I’ve been on the Danforth for a ‘licious event was several years ago at Ouzeri.  I remember the portions to be huge and the food was very authentically Greek.  Although a completely different restaurant, dining at Pan on the Danforth this time during Summerlicious 2013 was a similar experience.   Continue reading

Summerlicious 2013 Restaurant #2: Lisbon by Night

Portuguese food has never tasted so good at Lisbon by Night.  I loved the fish soup that I started off with.  This restaurant is really well known for their fish dishes and when I ordered the fish soup, even the server’s smile told me that it was the right appetizer to pick.  It was warm and each spoonful was full of soft, shredded fish pieces.  The crunchy croutons gave the soup a nice kick.  The calamari that my friend ordered was very well done and flavoured.   Continue reading

Summerlicious 2013 Restaurant #1: Splendido [Defunct]

Why, hello, hello!  The season of Toronto’s most beloved food celebrations is here!  Say hello (for the third time) to Summerlicious!  Hundreds of restaurants across Toronto choose to participate in this delicious 3-week affair of fine dining with prix fixe menus and drool-worthy items.  Every year I go a little crazy and attend as many restaurants as I can with friends.  How can I ever say no to prix fixe meals at some of the best restaurants in town? 🙂

For my first Summerlicious restaurant this season, myself and three friends ventured to Splendido for dinner.   Continue reading

Captioning the Asian Film Awards with Jade King

Jade and I

Jade and I

On March 18, 2013, I attended the 7th Annual Asian Film Awards with Jade King in Hong Kong.  I met up with Jade at 11 that morning to get to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.  I was beyond excited to be attending such a big event with her – it is the equivalent of the Oscars in North America! Being sick in the summertime is the worst

Caught a cold over the weekend.  Too many events to attend.  Not enough sleep and lack of nutrition.  Haven’t been working out lately due to said events.  Too much stuff going on  otherwise.  And officially 2 weeks before I leave to China!  I hope I get better before I leave. :/ And Summerlicious starts this week… also, there are 3-4 assignment/presentation things to work on for the DiSCOVER program.  So busy….   Continue reading

Dragon boat workshop

First time dragon boating!

First time dragon boating!

This past Saturday in the DiSCOVER 2013 program, instead of sitting in the classroom in our usual Mandarin class and business/Chinese culture workshop, we went out to the lake shore and did a 2-hour crash course on the wonderful water sport of dragon boating.  I’ve seen people dragon boat many times and ate those lotus-wrapped rice balls during Dragon Boat Festival but never had the inkling to try it out for myself.  We spent the first part of the hour warming up, doing stretches, and jogging on the boardwalk.   It was a really cool and gloomy morning.
