The first time that we went to Fraticelli’s Italian Grill & Bar was several years ago when the three of us went there as part of our annual girls get-together to eat and catch up — our “KAM dinners”.
Recently, after our brunch at Smash Kitchen & Bar, we decided to revisit Fraticelli’s Italian Grill & Bar again, because of that first memorable visit. Fraticelli’s is an Italian restaurant that serves authentic pasta dishes! I was really excited to return again to try it out this time.
I made reservations ahead of time on OpenTable for our dinner at 6:15 p.m. We were a little late in arriving, but even right at 6:30 p.m., there were already a lot of people in the dining room, from families to couples to group gatherings. Their dining space is massive and can fit many people into tables or booths!
It took a while for our server to return to us with our waters and to take our order. This lag and slow pace was the theme for the night because we found that it took the server a while to return back to our table in order for us to ask for the bill, for water refills, or for anything else. However, our female server was awfully cheerful and giggly. She had a bright smile and was very pleasant. It was just a slowness and lack of attentiveness at our table that carved into our dinner time. We were also in a little bit of a rush since our friend Marilyn had to leave early that we definitely noticed this slow service more than a usual dinner service.
In terms of the food, I chose the Spaghetti Carbonara — I definitely wanted pasta and something creamy. Marilyn and I chose the same dish while Alice opted for the seafood version.
First, we were served bread with olive oil. The bread was a little spicy which gave it a small kick. It was warm and toasty.
Shortly afterwards, our dishes arrived. I asked for lots of fresh grated Parmesan cheese on my Spaghetti Carbonara; I love cheese! I really liked the texture of the stringy hand made spaghetti. It was like comfort food and very al dente! I also liked the double smoked bacon slices within the spaghetti. I wish there were more egg and caramelized onions in the dish though and even more cheese would have made the dish come together more in terms of flavour. When comparing this pasta dish to the one that we all had here on our first visit (a creamy fettuccine seafood dish that was on special that night), this one pales in comparison. Nevertheless, I still really enjoyed the quality of the pasta here! 🙂
For dessert, Alice ordered the Amaretto Chocolate Cake. This was a “warm, molten center with ‘amaretto powdered’ vanilla gelato with fresh fruit, mint, and ‘dusted’ espresso icing sugar”. The presentation was so fancy and I found it funny that the food runner brought us six spoons even though we were only a party of three. XD Digging into the dessert with my spoon, it was a really soft ‘cake’. I wouldn’t even call it a cake because it wasn’t structured at all and more like a pudding-like consistency. It was definitely chocolaty though and the vanilla gelato was a nice touch of smoothness. I’m glad I got to try this!
Would I return to Fraticelli’s Italian Bar & Grill in the future? Perhaps! If a friend were to celebrate a birthday here, I would come back. It was definitely a nice place to chill out over food with some of your gal pals! The servers definitely don’t rush you, the environment is really classy and romantic, and the quality of the food is definitely high.
