For those of you who know, whenever you enter a Japanese shrine, there is a tradition and custom for all visitors to cleanse themselves at the chōzuya (or temizuya) with the provided ladle and holy water in a specific routine. Last night, for my first spot of the bi-annual culinary prix fixe restaurant, Daphne and I dined at Matahari Bar & Grill located at 39 Baldwin Street in downtown Toronto. Daphne has raved about Matahari several -licious seasons ago and thus I was quite curious about this restaurant that featured cooking that blended Malaysian, Chinese, and Indian influences. October 2, 2016 ~ Day 1 in Hokkadio, Japan.
My trip to Hokkaido began bright and early on Sunday, October 2, 2016. We checked out of the hotel in Hong Kong and went to take the bus to the airport at 6 a.m. so that we could make it for our 9:25 a.m. flight to Hokkaido.
I’ve been to Japan twice before (Tokyo/Osaka/Mount Fuji, and Okinawa) but this was my first time going to the northern island of Hokkaido. Continue reading

Kinton Ramen located at 505 Hwy 7 East, Unit #54-58 in Markham
I had the pleasure to be invited to the tasting event of the newest Kinton Ramen restaurant opening up in Markham last Thursday. Kinton Ramen has been a solid Japanese ramen house in Toronto for the last eight years or so after opening up their first location on Baldwin Street in downtown Toronto. I can’t believe this was only three years ago (time flies), but for a summer retreat with a local youth group, we went to Blue Mountain to become one with nature and play team games and complete some treetop trekking for the first time! It was finally time to explore a local foodie shop of my choice!!! All during this trip, I hadn’t had the chance to eat out at a restaurant that I truly wanted to try for the sake of being a foodie. To me, that means that the food is probably highly “instagramable”, the food is trendy, and the restaurant is worth the experience. Thus, when I checked out the local restaurants that were the area we were staying at, Sense Dessert Café popped up and we came here for a late lunch. 🙂 Continue reading

A few of my university friends and I decided to have brunch to reunite and catch up. We voted and The Drake Hotel topped the list of a good weekend brunch spot.
I arrived here after 11 a.m. and my friends were already here. The hostess led us throughout the hotel lobby to the back dining room where we received a large booth table for our brunch. Continue reading
Hidden Burger located at 22 Front Street West (inside The Bottom Line) in Toronto
I was invited to try the infamous burgers at Hidden Burger, known as Toronto’s worst kept secret, by the owner Chef Mo. I had actually heard about Hidden Burger from two other food blogger friends during the summer last year but never had the chance to check it out.
