De Code Adventures located at 6620 Kitimat Rd in Mississauga

As part of Tam’s birthday festivities this year, she celebrated with an escape game at De Code Adventures in Mississauga.  De Code Adventures has opened for more than two years already but it was my first time hearing about them and thus my first time playing one of their games.

I love playing escape games and I was very looking forward to seeing what this one would be like.   Continue reading

Ohsaekdalbit, Gangneung Culture Night

Ohsaekdalbit, Gangneung Culture Night in Gangneung, Korea. September 2016

This was one of my favourite photos from my trip to Korea this summer.  It was the second annual Ohsaekdalbit, Gangneung Culture Night, and volunteers manning the booths were handing out lanterns in the colours of the South Korean flag — very patriotic.  This celebration was in light of Chuseok, a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar on the full moon.   Continue reading

What a wonderful media event we had at The Poké Box on a Monday evening!  By now, those attuned to what’s trending on the Toronto food scene has noticed that there have been many poké shops opening up all around the city and The Poké Box is the latest one to join the poké craze.  For me, this was actually my first time trying poké and I was incredibly excited to try it out.   Continue reading

Having tried the first location of Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu Korean Restaurant near Finch and Yonge three years ago now (time flies), when I saw that they had opened their second location in the Bayview and Hwy 7 plaza, I was eager to try it again.  It was a nice to know that I didn’t have to trek all the way to North York for soon tofu anymore (yay!).   Continue reading

Blue fin tuna cutting at Ebisu

Ebisu located at 204 Queen Street West in Toronto

Thanks to Loopp Media Inc., I was able to attend the grand opening party of Ebisu opening on Queen Street in Toronto last Saturday.  (Ebisu replaces what used to be Sushi Queen on 204 Queen Street West in downtown Toronto.)

Ebisu is a sub-brand of Kamei Group in west coast Vancouver, BC.  They serve a variety of Japanese izakaya items including sushi, ramen, curry, and donburi.  Their first extended branch is now newly opened and this grand opening party commemorated that.   Continue reading

Steno adventures in Mississauga

 Mississauga views

The view from the 16th floor. ❤

Today’s steno reporting adventures came from the city of Mississauga!  It was my first time reporting outside of downtown Toronto — I’m still a newb — and I was very excited to drive out west for this job!  One thing I love about the steno field is that each day is different.  Reporters usually work out of different offices and law firms every day!   Continue reading

itaMoMo located at Shop 102, 1/F, Yu Chui Shopping Centre, 2 Ngau Pei Sha Street, Sha Tin in Hong Kong

itaMoMo (意八餐廳) is a restaurant franchise offering fusion Italian cuisine that spans several locations in Hong Kong.  We ate here for dinner  before our flight to Korea and arrived just in time to take advantage of their afternoon tea time special (ending 5:45 p.m.).  (Their entire tea time menu was in Chinese BUT their regular menu was in English and Chinese.)   Continue reading

Nak Won Paradise Korean Restaurant (Markham location)

Banchan at Nak Won Paradise Korean Restaurant

Nak Won Paradise Korean Restaurant located at in Markham

A day after returning home from my month-long Asia trip, I had lunch with my mom and the first thing that popped into my head that I wanted to eat was Korean food.  I wanted some of that spicy yet tangy kimchi and some hot stone pot rice!

Thus, we headed to the Markham location of Nak Won at First Markham place (a foodie heaven since there are so many restaurants all in one place).  I had never been to this location of Nak Won before Continue reading

Daniel’s Restaurant (Hong Kong)

Daniel's Restaurant grass jelly dessert

Daniel’s Restaurant located at Shop 8, Tin Po Building, 100 Tai Wai Road, Sha Tin in Hong Kong

It’s funny because the English translation of this Chinese café’s name is “steamed egg man” (金裝燉奶佬餐廳) which implies that this restaurant sells steamed egg puddings as their specialty.  However, it turns out that Daniel’s Restaurant is just a regular Hong Kong style café.  They don’t even sell any steamed egg at all!   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Local

 Markham sunsets

Markham, Ontario. September 2016

A simple photo for this week’s photo challenge of “local”.  This photo was taken a month ago in Markham as the setting sun revealed some pretty watercolour-like tones on the late summer sky.  It’s interesting how different seasons will give you different sunset colours.  I drive on this road often; it’s 16th Avenue for those of you living in Markham. 🙂   Continue reading
