Ka Chi Korean Restaurant

The selection of bland-tasting side dishes at Ka Chi (8 St. Andrew street location)

I had fairly high expectations for Ka Chi seeing as there are three locations in the downtown Toronto area.  Continue reading

Chiu Chow Cuisine at Bayview Court Restaurant

The best Chiu Chow cuisine I’ve had

A lost gem is now found!  I used to go to this restaurant for Chiu Chow cuisine all the time with my family in Markham as a kid growing up.  There used to be a branch located at the Peachtree Centre at Kennedy and Highway 7.  One day, we went to the plaza to have some grub and discovered that they had closed down and relocated somewhere else.  Continue reading

Sampling Cajun & Creole Cuisine at Southern Accent [Defunct due to Covid-19]

Taste testing at Southern Accent!

I just came back from a wonderful evening of dining at Southern Accent.  My friend Mandy and I were super, super excited to try this place out.  She’s never been tried Cajun/Creole cuisine before and this was my first time being invited to try out a complimentary tasting menu at a restaurant!!  I was so giddy from the start of the meal to the very end when we walked out with our tummies full. 😀

Golden Flower Cafe

This is yet another Hong Kong style cafe where you can choose from a list of noodles, rice, sandwiches as a set lunch or dinner with the soup of the day plus a tea or coffee.  The service is usually subpar and the food is decent but nothing extraordinary.  Golden Flower Cafe is just another one of those HK-style cafes where you can get a convenient and cheap meal.   Continue reading

The Ubiquitous Congee Wong

Taken at the Bayview & Spadina Road location at 1 Spadina Road, Richmond Hill

A frequent place I go to for Chinese comfort food is Congee Wong.  Don’t be fooled by the name that this friendly Chinese restaurant only offers congee as it hosts a huge array of Cantonese noodles, rice, and snacks.  It’s a great place to go for dinner, afternoon meal, late-night chews, or even breakfast.  It’s super casual and the staff are always quick with the orders and friendly — well, the Bayview and Spadina Road location at least!  It’s part of a chain and there are three other restaurants around the GTA.   Continue reading

The Ugly Sweater Run 2013

Ugly Sweater Run 2013

Participating in the Ugly Sweater Run 2013 in Toronto!

Yesterday, I participated in The Ugly Sweater Run in Toronto.  This was my second 5K event and I was ready to run and have some fun!  The family-friendly event was held at Downsview Park in the northwest end of Toronto.  The event benefits The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and is a great way to kick off the holiday spirit with an ugly sweater showdown.  Not only that, but everyone who is of age gets the chance to guzzle down free beer after the run is over too (unlimited hot chocolate during the course as well)!   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Layers

Woodbine Beach, Ontario, Canada.  September 2012

Layers — literally all the layers we have on the planet:  the stratosphere, the clouds, flows of air and wind, the atmosphere around us, the space between us all, grains of sand on the beach, molecules in the water…

Blazing Fire Chicken with Cheese at Home of Hot Taste

Blazing Fire Chicken with Cheese at Home of Hot Taste

Home of Hot Taste located at 5 Glen Cameron Rd #3B in Thornhill

I said I would return to the Home of Hot Taste restaurant to try this appealing dish — “Blazing Fire Chicken with Cheese”.  In my previous review of this restaurant, I had eyed this chicken dish on the menu with drool coming out of the corners of my mouth… I really wanted to try this fiery chicken dish that had cheese in it!   Continue reading

Horseback Riding at Churchill Chimes

I’ve never been horseback riding before and have always wanted to try.  A friend in the Mon Sheong group suggested to go for an outing and we did!  After a satisfying breakfast at The Fickle Pickle, we walked into the property of Churchill Chimes for our one-hour introductory lesson.   Continue reading

Breakfast at The Fickle Pickle

The Fickle Pickle on 6302 Main Street in Stouffville

Before we headed for our first introductory lesson on horseback riding, the group of my friends and I had breakfast at The Fickle Pickle.  It’s a small family restaurant that is located on one of the many shops and eateries on Main Street in Stouffville.  I don’t quite remember, but this may have been my first time in Stouffville.  It’s far up north and east where there are not many people and resembles a small town.   Continue reading
