Zumba fun! First time at this location. 🙂
I think I’m addicted. Â I had my fourth class doing Zumba tonight and I’m still pumped and energetic from the high energy and endorphins from the class. Â Amazing!! Â I was just looking up classes and more locations where I can learn Zumba from and it appears that there’s a TON of places to go to! Â I’m so excited!!! Â Continue reading
Cool beans! I got to shadow a court reporter today at a Federal Court trial. 😀 This doesn’t happen very often since special permission needs to be asked; students from our school typically sit in on cases at the reporting agency or the Law Society of Upper Canada.  Continue reading
I’ve jumped on the green juice bandwagon — it’s the latest health craze: grinding up your favourite veggies and fruits into smoothie-like consistency and chugging it all down.
The first day, I mixed an apple, orange, avocado, a handful of spinach, half a lime, and water into the blender. Continue reading
It was a Thursday afternoon in late August 2012 when I received an e-mail from CCVS asking me if I was interested in teaching Phoenix Theory at the school. My first reaction after reading the e-mail was, “No way, I’m not going to be a theory instructor; I want to be a court reporter!” However, after thinking about it for a few minutes, I was curious about the job and wanted to find out more. This was one of the most enjoyable weekends I’ve had in a while :). Best times always include the 4 Fs: Â Food, friends, family, and fun! Â New experiences are always added to the mix of fun stuff too. Â This weekended started off with zumba on Friday with a friend; SO fun! Â Shaking our hips to LMFAO’s “Shake That Body” and realizing that I have terrible body coordination has never been so fun and invigorating. Â Continue reading
I shadowed another court reporter today. Yay! I’ve actually shadowed her before too, Lisa Lamberti, so it was quite nice when she came into the room and said, “Hi Karen! Good to see you again!” This was another examination for discovery and was very relaxed and short! We started at 11 am, took a 10 minute break in between, and then ended at 1 pm. Less than two hours. Lisa got 66 pages and I got __. There were 3 people in the room, so the speakers were easy to keep track of. Continue reading
Today, I got to job shadow Teresa Forbes for the second time. She’s a realtime court reporter who has worked for many many years. The first time I heard of her was actually the very first day I also saw a steno machine demonstration and tried out one for the first time. It was at the Open House in March of 2009 at my court reporting school. I had called ahead of time for the 5 pm slot, and when I got there, I sat in a room to wait for the demonstration to start. I remember sitting there with other potential students and reading through the information package that they gave us. In this info package was also articles about successful court reporters, and in the featured article was Teresa Forbes. (This was the exact article I read. ) Who would have known that one day I’d get to job shadow her?  Continue reading
This weekend I went to High Park to see cherry blossoms for the very first time! Â I went with a group of friends, and since it was the second day that nearly all of the blossoms were out in bloom; it was a weekend; it was perfect 26 degree weather; and perfect sunny skies, the park was literally packed with people. Â It was my first time at the park to see these blossoms. Â Continue reading
In one of the steno groups on facebook that I belong to, one of the members mentioned that a stenograph in Chinese is called a 速录机.  I Googled this and this gave me a fantastic array of pictures of Chinese steno machines and stenographers.  So cool! Â
The set up is exactly like how a regular stenograph for English is.
On Saturday, April 27, the Mon Sheong/DiSCOVER group led us to tree planting!  This was part of a city-wide initiative to plant trees and there were so many volunteers there.  I was quite pleasantly surprised!
I’ve always wanted to plant trees! Â The first time I wanted to plant trues was back in high school when I saw a poster in the hallways promoting a tree-planting day. Â Continue reading
