Beautifying Markham, one bag at a time

I’ve been inspired again to pick up litter around my neighbourhood after attending another annual Canadian Shoreline Cleanup with the Trillium Lions recently– you can view the blog post here.  I have always loved picking up trash… it might sound weird to you but it is a challenge to me to try to find all of the litter when walking around, a goal to be able to pick up as much garbage as I can find, and it’s fun (for me).   Continue reading

Cho Sun Ok

 Cho Sun Ok cold noodles

Cho Sun Ok located at 7353 Yonge Street in Thornhill

The first time I dined at Cho Sun Ok was many, many years ago.  This was before they had renovated and still had an open space restaurant (and also before this blog existed!).  During that first visit, I had tried their cold noodles (which were very well known at Cho Sun Ok and recommended to me by a friend) and I had found the dish to be quite ordinary and it didn’t really appeal to me.  Fast forward to today though, I really wanted to return back to Cho Sun Ok to try these cold noodles again to refresh my impression of the restaurant.   Continue reading

The Winery Experience at Trius Winery at Hillebrand

Trius Winery at Hillebrand

Trius Winery at Hillebrand located at 1249 Niagara Stone Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake

I had the pleasure to be invited to dine at Trius Winery at Hillebrand this past Friday night!  I believe I’ve been to Trius Winery before for a wine tasting tour but I’m not positive.  Either way, we arrived at Trius Winery just after 7 p.m. and the sun was beaming in the south ready to set.  This gave a beautiful glow to the winery and restaurant where the dining experience would be held.  It was so beautiful out and we could see the grapevines beyond the field too.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Rare

Glacier Explorers, Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand

Glacier Explorers, Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand. April 2015

This is actually a truly rare sight.  I was travelling in New Zealand last year and visiting the famous Mount Cook Aoraki area.  Part of the itinerary was the Glacier Explorers tour in the Tasman Glacier terminal lake where we wore lifejackets and sat in a boat to view the amazing glaciers and mountains around us.  Low and behold, we chanced upon a look at a freshly fallen iceberg.   Continue reading

Double-check your work locations ;)

 Pokemon Go Jynx

Jynx reminds you with a slap to always check your work locations ahead of time! 😛

This is a PSA to my fellow stenographers.  You probably don’t need it.  But I definitely needed it this morning as I headed to my job for the day. 😀

It was a beautiful summer day in Toronto, not too hot but still a little muggy and humid.  I was so confident and excited and a little cautious about my job today for an interview being held at a building that I regularly work out of.  Or so I thought :-O.   Continue reading

India’s Taste in Markham: All-you-can-eat buffet

India's Taste in Markham

India’s Taste located at 680 Denison Street in Markham (they have an updated logo)

Updating this post with a recent visit on February 3, 2024:

I visited India’s Taste in Markham with my own family for their lunch buffet this past weekend.  It’s surreal that the bottom post was last published in 2016.  India’s Taste still has the same appeal for all-you-can-eat Indian food for an affordable price.  I am really grateful that they survived the pandemic and are still able to offer lunch and dinner buffets. Media Tasting Event at Boil King [Defunct]

Boil King seafood boil

Boil King located at 333 King St W in Toronto

There is another new seafood boil restaurant in town!  Boil King is now open and located in the Entertainment District on 333 King Street West close to Blue Jays Way.

Boil King is a family-owned restaurant that serves the Louisiana tradition of Cajun-style seafood in the heart of downtown Toronto.  With a kitchen led by a chef with over thirty years of international culinary experience, the restaurant invited me to a casual family-style tasting event with other Instagram food enthusiasts of Toronto last night!   Continue reading

Charles de Gaulle Airport

Charles de Gaulle Airport located at 95700 Roissy-en-France, Paris, France

Thursday, April 21, 2016.  Day 9 flying home.

This morning, had to actually wake up half an hour earlier than usual (we had been waking up to breakfast at 7 a.m. every day on the tour) at 6:30 a.m. to eat breakfast and to go directly to the airport (Charles de Gaulle).

Check-in was at 8 a.m. sharp so we were the very first ones in line.   Continue reading

La Maison du Chocolat (Paris, France)

La Maison du Chocolat macarons

La Maison du Chocolat located at 5, rue du Cercle, Aéroport Roissy Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2F1, Zone sous douane, 95700 Roissy-en-France

We arrived at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport early ready to board our flight back home.  After we proceeded through customs and x-rays, I saw that there were many boutiques and souvenir shops.  Typical of Paris, France, there was also a Ladurée shop!  Even though I had tried my first French macarons from there already, I still wandered into the shop to peek around. 🙂  Across from it though, there was a La Maison du Chocolat that also had displays of chocolate and macarons!   Continue reading
