Kam Shan Seafood Restaurant

For our very last dinner in Hong Kong before flying off, we went to Kam Shan Seafood Restaurant in Mong Kok. This was lauded as a well-known seafood restaurant. Similar to the restaurants in Sai Kung and in fact many other seafood restaurants in Hong Kong, you can choose the live seafood that you want from the fish tanks and then have it prepared in the restaurant’s kitchen right away to your table.

My cousin brought us to Social Place (唐宮小聚) for dim sum. It wasn’t until we arrived that I realized it was such a trendy restaurant for Shanghainese food and dim sum (branded as contemporary Chinese cuisine)!

Dinner at Ming Garden Restaurant in Lok Fu

We had a family reunion dinner at Ming Garden Restaurant (名苑) in Lok Fu. It’s a full Chinese restaurant inside of the Lok Fu shopping mall, which I believe may be new as I haven’t noticed it before. Next to the Chinese restaurant is a HK style cafe called Chin Yip Ramen that I have dined in for afternoon tea previously.

Lunch at RBTea Waffle & Toast

I haven’t had the slightest craving for or had desire to eat any Western food or non-Asian food these past couple of weeks. I guess I just enjoy Asian food enough.

With that said, since it was lunchtime and we were around the area of this Pioneer Centre Shopping Arcade in Mong Kok, we noticed there was this restaurant called RBTea Waffle & Toast. I was given the suggestion that since we had been eating Asian food constantly that it might be good to switch it up.

Herbal Turtle Jelly at Hoi Tin Tong

Stopped by the Mong Kok branch of Hoi Tin Tong (海天堂) for a bowl of the traditional herbal turtle jelly. This branch is smaller than the one I’ve been to before. It has a dine-in section and a take-out counter as well.

Cafe Bon Bon in Tai Kok Tsui

We had actually attempted to dine at this restaurant called 車品品 (Cafe Bon Bon) three times before we finally were able to try it. (The first time had a long line-up which we didn’t want to wait for. The second and third times were when it was closed on Mondays.)

Apparently they were advertised in the travel booklet for having $52 HKD abalone (around $8 – 9 CAD) and good imitation shark fin soups.

Soup Noodles at 蝦妹記

Another little noodle shop! 😀 The first time we passed by this small corner shop called 蝦妹記 front of a crosswalk, it was packed with people and some more were waiting outside. The advertisements outside showed $24 HKD noodles which was so cheap!

Dinner at Maxim’s Palace (Sha Tin)

We had dinner at Maxim’s Palace (美心集團). The last time I was here was also for dinner and dim sum back in the autumn of 2016. The place hadn’t changed at all. It’s one of the biggest restaurants I can recall dining in while in Hong Kong. The space is akin to the area at the old Red Ruby restaurant in Toronto. Their rent must be astronomical considering every inch of Hong Kong is so valuable.

Trusty Congee King at MOSTown

January 16, 2019:

Dropped by Trusty Congee King (靠得住粥麵小館) after noticing the advert for it in the MOSTown shopping mall. It was apparently a Michelin Star restaurant.

We arrived at 4:50 p.m. just in time to take advantage of their afternoon tea special. It was a nicely designed and chic-looking Chinese restaurant inside of the mall. Upon closer inspection, their placemat signified another location as the Michelin Star restaurant and not this location I was at.
