Heading to Music City in August!

Yay!  I just booked my plane tickets to Nashville, Tennessee for August for the NCRA Annual Convention!  Yay!!!  I’ve also just registered for the event too.  Heh.  I got excited reading about the resort that the Convention is being held in this year too.   Continue reading

Yamamoto Japanese Cuisine [Defunct]

My friends and I went to a Japanese all-you-can-eat restaurant last night and I was  pleasantly surprised at the quality and yumminess of the food!  It’s a new restaurant that opened up at Market Village where the Mongolian grill place used to be.   Continue reading

Translation Statistics

On Friday, I shadowed a fellow friend and former CCVS grad and now court reporter at an examination for discovery.  There was an interpreter for this examination and it pertained to a local business!  I was pretty excited for it since the material was relevant and I had never been on an examination where there was an interpreter before.  The witness spoke in Cantonese, interestingly, so I was actually able to understand what was being said without the interpreter.   Continue reading

Short shadowing session

I shadowed Lisa today again on a case!  Yay!  To my surprise, the case was only 48 minutes lol. We started at 10 a.m. sharp and before we even had any sort of break at all, the lawyer announced he was done questioning.  To date, this is the shortest case I’ve been on.  I’m not complaining, of course; I got to spend the rest of my day completing things on my to-do list.   Continue reading

Zumba

Zumba fun! First time at this location. 🙂

I think I’m addicted.  I had my fourth class doing Zumba tonight and I’m still pumped and energetic from the high energy and endorphins from the class.  Amazing!!  I was just looking up classes and more locations where I can learn Zumba from and it appears that there’s a TON of places to go to!  I’m so excited!!!   Continue reading

Job Shadowing at the Federal Court

Cool beans! I got to shadow a court reporter today at a Federal Court trial. 😀 This doesn’t happen very often since special permission needs to be asked; students from our school typically sit in on cases at the reporting agency or the Law Society of Upper Canada.   Continue reading

Green Juice

I’ve jumped on the green juice bandwagon — it’s the latest health craze: grinding up your favourite veggies and fruits into smoothie-like consistency and chugging it all down.

The first day, I mixed an apple, orange, avocado, a handful of spinach, half a lime, and water into the blender. Continue reading

A Look-back at Teaching Phoenix Theory at CCVS

It was a Thursday afternoon in late August 2012 when I received an e-mail from CCVS asking me if I was interested in teaching Phoenix Theory at the school. My first reaction after reading the e-mail was, “No way, I’m not going to be a theory instructor; I want to be a court reporter!” However, after thinking about it for a few minutes, I was curious about the job and wanted to find out more. Continue reading

Awesome sauce weekend

This was one of the most enjoyable weekends I’ve had in a while :). Best times always include the 4 Fs:  Food, friends, family, and fun!  New experiences are always added to the mix of fun stuff too.   This weekended started off with zumba on Friday with a friend; SO fun!  Shaking our hips to LMFAO’s “Shake That Body” and realizing that I have terrible body coordination has never been so fun and invigorating.   Continue reading

Job shadowing Lisa Lamberti

I shadowed another court reporter today. Yay! I’ve actually shadowed her before too, Lisa Lamberti, so it was quite nice when she came into the room and said, “Hi Karen! Good to see you again!” This was another examination for discovery and was very relaxed and short! We started at 11 am, took a 10 minute break in between, and then ended at 1 pm. Less than two hours. Lisa got 66 pages and I got __. There were 3 people in the room, so the speakers were easy to keep track of. Continue reading
