Dinner at Regal Terrace in Regal Riverside Hotel

September 9, 2017:  First night arrival in HK and we went to the Chinese restaurant, Regal Terrace, at Regal Riverside Hotel in Sha Tin for dinner (麗豪酒店) with my relatives.  It was next to a river and I remember that the last time I came here, we walked here from the MTR station.

I hadn’t previously blogged about this restaurant yet despite being there just last year (probably due to my backlog) but I will do so today.  We had 5 dishes.  This restaurant was so pricey and the dishes were so small! 😮  After our first two Continue reading

Campgrounds Review: Harmony Acres Campground

tent in the woods

Harmony Acres Campground located at 6798 Hwy 6 in Tobermory

This post is a brief review on the Harmony Acres Campground that I stayed at from August 25 to 27, 2017.

We found this campground online as the first campsite link that popped up after Googling “Tobermory”.  It was a family-owned site that appeared extremely nature-friendly and devoted to preserving the area in which the camp site was in.  The website was very straight-forward and easy to navigate.  You could click to see the photos of each Continue reading

Tobermory 2017: Part 2 ~ Flowerpot Island, Exploring Little Tub, Lunch at The Fish & Chip Place

Flowerpot Island cruise in Tobermory

Cruise to see the Flowerpot Island in Tobermory!

August 27-28, 2017:  We woke up at a nice decent hour on the third day and made breakfast.  We were experts now at starting the fires.  We had bought tickets for the glass-bottom cruises from Bruce Anchor Cruises to see Flowerpot Island at 1:40 p.m. so we decided that we would make and eat lunch on the site too.  After a nice hot shower for me, we began making lunch by 11:30 a.m. and set out at 1:15 p.m. to park our car and get to the shuttle bus. Continue reading

Tobermory 2017: Part 1 ~ Arrival and the Grotto

Grotto in Tobermory

Visiting the Grotto in Tobermory

August 25-26, 2017:  I had never been to the northern part of Ontario before to Tobermory.  I had heard of its beautiful waters and landscapes so when we rented a campsite to stay there for an extended weekend, I was super excited!  It turned out that the last week of August was the best time to go camping outdoors as it wasn’t hot outside at all and the nights were cool with minimal mosquitoes (always a hindrance and annoyance when Continue reading

Food Adventures at CNE 2017

 taco mac and cheese

Canadian National Exhibition located at 210 Princes’ Blvd in Toronto

My food adventures at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) this year were quite tame.  Nevertheless, the food was still good.

When we got to the Food Building around 1 p.m., the building was packed as always.  I had a bit of a sore throat growing so I was on the search for some comfort food that wasn’t too spicy or fried so as to limit further irritation of my throat.  I decided to get mac and cheese!

Mac & Cheesery has been a vendor at the CNE as Continue reading

Paramount Fine Foods (Niagara Falls)

Paramount Fine Foods located at 6380 Fallsview Boulevard, Unit R9 in Niagara Falls

For a quick lunch when we arrived in Niagara Falls, we went to Paramount Fine Foods.  I have been to a number of Paramount Fine Foods in Toronto already and was very familiar with their menu.  Thus, after we walked in and were seated, we ordered the Tabliyeh Saj Chicken Shawarma and Zaatar Manakeesh right away to share.

The service was a little slow here as the servers didn’t walk around often to our area of the dining room.

The Tabliyeh Saj Chicken Shawarma was Continue reading

A First Look at the Monga Fried Chicken in Toronto

Monga Fried Chicken promo

Monga Fried Chicken located at 692 Yonge St in Toronto

Thanks to another DKLoEvent, I was able to attend a tasting to try the new Monga Fried Chicken that has arrived in Toronto.  Monga Fried Chicken (艋舺雞排) is a Taiwanese chain of fried chicken that boasts thick-cut and crispy fried chicken cutlets and “Bao-gers”.

On a Tuesday evening at 6:15 p.m., the tasting began.  As usual, there were a lot of food Instagrammers in the house, both new and old.  I took some photos of the products on display.  Shortly thereafter, Darren welcomed us officially to Continue reading

Rodizio Style All-You-Can-Eat Fine Dining at Touro Brazilian Steakhouse

Touro Brazilian Steakhouse located at 125 York Blvd in Richmond Hill

The final contest meal I won this summer was a meal for two at Touro Brazilian Steakhouse (Touro Churrascaria).  Thanks to Jackie of @theeverydayfoodie who hosted the Instagram contest, I was selected as a winner to enjoy this complimentary meal.  Yay!

I had dined at another Brazilian steakhouse before; that of Copacabana Brazilian Steakhouse located in downtown Toronto.  Thus, I had a general idea of what to expect already.  A Brazilian steakhouse restaurant is where there are servers called Gauchos who bring various cuts of meat like chicken, beef, and lamb on a skewer to your table.  If you want to take it, then you take your tongs to clamp a piece while the Gaucho slices it it on to your plate.  It’s a unique table-side service for all-you-can-eat meat!

I decided to bring my mom with me since she had never experienced a Brazilian steakhouse restaurant before.

Touro Brazilian Steakhouse was located at Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Waiting

 baby robin waiting for mom

Markham, Ontario. May 2017

How perfect.  I am just finishing up the final touches of the post that I wrote yesterday about watching a robin’s nest back in May of this year.  This photo shows one of the baby robins waiting patiently as mom or dad comes back to the nest with a juicy worm in their beak for feeding time. 🙂   Continue reading

Robin’s Nest and Robin Babies Outside my Front Door

 robin and her nest

Robin family

Back in May of this year, I had the pleasure to witness a robin’s nest come to life with robin eggs and babies that grew up and later flew away.  I had only seen robin eggs and robin babies in online videos and photos up to that point.  What a surprise it was to find out that we had a robin choose our home as their home to nest their Continue reading
