Filipino Food at Max’s Restaurant

Located at 121 – 1520 Steeles Ave West in Vaughan

Yay, Filipino food!  A group of us 8 foodie adventurers gathered together to have dinner at Max’s Restaurant (Max’s of Manila) on a Saturday night.  Most of us had never had Filipino food before (I have: here and here) so it was opportunistic to try out this restaurant with everyone — it meant that we could try out many dishes together and share!  I’ve heard of this restaurant before by a fellow blogger who recommended Max’s Restaurant and also by Christian who is Filipino.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Dreamy

Hong Kong en route to Macao. July 2009

Aw, I found the perfect picture for this week’s photo challenge!  This picture was taken in the summer of 2009 in July when I was on vacation.  We were at the harbor in Hong Kong and just about to take off in our comfortable ferry to Macao.  It was raining outside and I somehow got this picture that fits the “dreamy” theme perfectly.   Continue reading

School Restaurant

Located at 70 Fraser Ave. in Toronto

You know we’re serious about trying new restaurants and food when we venture all the way downtown on a weekday to try out School Restaurant which is located by subway and streetcar (you know those pesky streetcars that sometimes take forever to arrive?  — I’m just joking, Toronto).   Continue reading

Signs Restaurant — a unique dining experience using ASL

Located at 558 Yonge St in Toronto

Ever since I saw the promotional video for one of Toronto’s newest restaurants called Signs, I knew I wanted to try it out.  It’s the only restaurant in Toronto where all of the servers are deaf and use American sign language to communicate with the guests.  This takes the dining experience to a whole new level.   Continue reading

Chiu Chow Boy

Located at 3261 Kennedy Rd in Scarborough

Being backlogged on my stenoodie food blog posts means that I sometimes go to a restaurant again before I have even blogged about it the first time that I stepped foot inside.  This happened to Chiu Chow Boy recently!  I first stepped into this restaurant when I was a young child and really don’t remember much about this restaurant.   Continue reading

Hero Certified Burgers in Vaughan (across from Wonderland)

Located at 9781 Jane St in Vaughan

After we rode on the Leviathan for the first time (for most of us), it was time for lunch.  I have really smart friends, so instead of dining in at the restaurants and fast food joints inside the theme park, we walked 5 minutes to cross the parking lot and street in order to eat at the local places instead (so much cheaper!).   Continue reading

Zakkushi

Located at 193 Carlton St in Toronto

For Jessica’s birthday, we went to Zakkushi, which is an authentic Japanese izakaya in Cabbagetown (you can get there easily on the College streetcar going east).  It’s a really nicely decorated restaurant that is cozy and separated by wooden panels (at least the area that we were seated at).  All of the staff spoke Japanese and our server was so warm and friendly throughout our entire stay there.   Continue reading

Aoyama Sushi

Located at 2766 Victoria Park Ave in North York

I was able to catch up with Rosemarie at a Japanese restaurant near the area of Victoria Park and Finch.  It was a rainy night and I’m so glad that I got a parking spot right in front of the restaurant so I didn’t have to risk drenching myself in the heavy rain.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Signs

Taken in September 2010 on a road trip to Ottawa

Don’t you just love seeing these signs?  It means that you’re travelling and on the journey to go to a different location.  I love travelling and it’s pretty fun to see these signs on the highway as you pass them by on your road trip and see yourself getting closer and closer to the destination.  This weekend, we’re going on a EC Family Road Trip!!!!   Continue reading

Ho Garden Chinese Restaurant

Located at 9255 Woodbine Avenue., Unit 10 in Markham

October 2014:  First of all, I’m not sure who named this restaurant or why this restaurant is even named “Ho Garden” considering that we are in a country where English is one of the two official languages.  I would understand if we were in Hong Kong or Asia where the translation of the names from one language doesn’t exactly correlate well, but this is just funny.  Ho Garden is really just a typical HK-style Chinese restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner sets.   Continue reading
