Being sick in the summertime is the worst

Caught a cold over the weekend.  Too many events to attend.  Not enough sleep and lack of nutrition.  Haven’t been working out lately due to said events.  Too much stuff going on  otherwise.  And officially 2 weeks before I leave to China!  I hope I get better before I leave. :/ And Summerlicious starts this week… also, there are 3-4 assignment/presentation things to work on for the DiSCOVER program.  So busy….   Continue reading

Dragon boat workshop

First time dragon boating!

First time dragon boating!

This past Saturday in the DiSCOVER 2013 program, instead of sitting in the classroom in our usual Mandarin class and business/Chinese culture workshop, we went out to the lake shore and did a 2-hour crash course on the wonderful water sport of dragon boating.  I’ve seen people dragon boat many times and ate those lotus-wrapped rice balls during Dragon Boat Festival but never had the inkling to try it out for myself.  We spent the first part of the hour warming up, doing stretches, and jogging on the boardwalk.   It was a really cool and gloomy morning.

TO Food Fest 2013!

It’s sort of like the night markets except during the day. The event began at 1 p.m. and lasted until 6 p.m. Continue reading

My First Time Dining at JaBistro in Toronto

JaBistro logo

JaBistro located at 222 Richmond St W in Toronto

There’s been a lot of talk about the Japanese restaurant called JaBistro that opened up in the Entertainment District in downtown Toronto, so I was quite excited to get a chance to go.  It just so happened that I visited on International Sushi Day, June 18. 😀  Who knew there was such a thing?   Continue reading

DiSCOVER 2013 retreat

This weekend was a bit of a prelude to the 2-week trip to China that I’ll be partaking in during July as part of the culminating event to the 6-month DiSCOVER youth development program.  We went up to Blue Mountain in Collingwood, Ontario, and lodged in a very well facilitated resort house for the weekend.   Continue reading

Peruvian dishes at El Fogon

Basket of bread

El Fogon located at 543 Saint Clair Avenue West in Toronto

Last night, a friend and I tried Peruvian food at El Fogon.  It’s a nice little restaurant on St. Clair West.  I was the first person to walk into the restaurant at 7 p.m. on a Thursday night, but as the night went on, there were more patrons.  It seems like a small family-owned restaurant which is always nice.   Continue reading

Six students passed their speed tests this weekend.  Woohoo!  So happy when I got the e-mails informing me that they passed and and four of them were my former theory students.  YAY!   Continue reading
