Little Noodle Shop in Mong Kok

January 12, 2019:

We passed by this tiny shop (小麵站) selling noodles on the street in Mong Kok and I was instantly intrigued and wanted to try it. There were a good number of other people crowding around and taking an interest at the shop too. The little bowls of noodles in the fridge looked so appealing. They sold hot soup noodles too with various toppings. Apparently, their noodles were $30 HKD and up only. We decided to try.

We had dinner with some family friends at Fu Weng Seafood Restaurant in Kwun Tong.  We ordered seven dishes to eat a la family style.  The food was very good and the portions were reasonable.

Fu Weng Seafood (福翁海鮮薈) located inside the Lu Plaza is a typical Chinese restaurant; clean, bright, Continue reading

Pig Lard Noodles at Ying Kee Noodle

Ying Kee Noodle food

Ying Kee Noodle located at 4 Lime Street, Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon in Hong Kong

January 11, 2019:

After the foot massage, I was feeling a bit hungry so we went to one of the nearby noodle places recommended by the hotel.  This was Ying Kee Noodle (英記油渣麵) and featured pig lard noodles.

Apparently, lard noodle originated from the 60s and 70s as a traditional Continue reading

Reflexology at Cheerful Foot Spa Centre (知足樂)

Cheerful Foot Spa Centre (知足樂) storefront

Cheerful Foot Spa Centre (知足樂) located at G/F, 184 Lai Chi Kok Road, Kowloon in Hong Kong

January 11, 2019:

When looking for Tim Ho Wan the other day, we passed by a lot of ground level foot massage places.  We prefer ground level massage places rather than ones where you have to go upstairs to a second floor or higher because you never know what goes on in unseen places (or so I’m told).  We wanted to get a reflexology session to ease our sore feet and legs after walking nonstop each day so far on this trip.

Eel Clay Pot Rice at Wing Hei Restaurant

January 10, 2019:
We ended up at this Hong Kong style cafe/restaurant called Wing Hei Restaurant (榮熙茶餐廳) for dinner. When browsing for a restaurant to eat at the first night, I had already noticed this restaurant since there was a promotional picture of an eel dish and it piqued my interest.

Lining up at Jenny Bakery in Tsim Sha Tsui

January 10, 2019:

An acquaintance of ours asked us to purchase a tin of cookies from Jenny Bakery (珍妮曲奇聰明小熊) to bring back to her on our visit to Hong Kong.
We first arrived at the Mirador Mansion building in Tsim Sha Tsui at 12:30 p.m. on a Thursday. This was an old and unkept commercial building. The address on Google showed there being both a ground floor storefront and a first floor storefront.

Thick Pork Chop Bun at Yuen Long Bistro

January 10, 2019:

While in the Tsim Sha Tsui area and passing 2 p.m., we stopped into Yuen Long Bistro (元朗冰室) for some Hong Kong style food. Earlier, we had passed by this Hong Kong style cafe at 1 p.m. and there was a line-up. I’m glad that we were able to get seated right away after the lunch rush hour had passed.

Irvins Salted Egg Snacks in Tsim Sha Tsui

January 10, 2019:

I had heard all about this “deliciously addictive” salted duck egg snack and was eager to try this out. I love, love, love eating fried fish skins and the fact that these were going to be coated with salted duck egg made me think I would enjoy these very much. (Every post I had seen on Instagram of foodies talking about it raved about it.) For sure, I had put Irvins Salted Egg snacks on my to-buy list when visiting Hong Kong.

Michelin Star Dim Sum at Tim Ho Wan (Sham Shui Po location)

Tim Ho Wan dim sum

Tim Ho Wan located at 9-11 Fuk Wing St, Sham Shui Po at Hong Kong

January 9, 2019:

This is what Michelin star dim sum looks like! 😀 Despite having a full western style breakfast at 6:30 a.m. in the morning, my stomach was ready and hungry to try some Michelin starred dim sum at Tim Ho Wan (添好運) at noon.  This is apparently one of the cheapest and most affordable Michelin star restaurants you could eat at in Hong Kong and I was definitely all Continue reading
