Friendly House Restaurant

Located at 5908 Yonge St in North York

What is it about a court reporting job that really drains you?  Some time a couple of weeks ago, after finishing a half day job at court, I was famished.  Instead of waiting around for traffic to subside near the Finch Station area, I ended up satisfying my stomach at Friendly House Restaurant for a late lunch.

Friendly House Restaurant is an unassuming family restaurant located on Yonge Street across from the Food Basics near Cummer Avenue.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Contrasts

The Bird’s Nest in Beijing, China.  July 2013

Contrasts:  The difference between a light and dark place, the difference between a peaceful and noisy place = the Bird’s Nest in Beijing, China currently.  After the 2008 Summer Olympics were full of activity, noise, and cause for celebration, it now sits as an empty and lonely shell for curious tourists to visit.   Continue reading

Drinks and Snacks at Cafe Soban (Yonge & Finch)

Located at 5600 Yonge Street in North York

This was such a good discovery!  Up until I found out about Soban, a little cafe on the second floor located at the corner of Yonge & Finch in North York, I would arrange to meet friends for a chat usually at Princess Cafe — it was a good place to have snacks and drinks with wifi (however, I noticed that sometimes it wasn’t very reliable).   Continue reading

Sharing Spanish Tapas at Bar Isabel!

Located at 797 College Street in Toronto

Yay!  I finally got a chance to try Bar Isabel!!!!  This restaurant has been on the top foodie list on Urbanspoon for several months now. It’s similar to The Black Hoof where you get to share tapa-style dishes with friends.  I’ve heard that you need to make reservations weeks in advance for a table, so when Shelley and I decided to come to Bar Isabel, I made sure to call ahead of time to reserve our table.

Mona’s Roti — Caribbean Food

Located at 4810 Sheppard Ave. East Unit 209 in Scarborough

Steph and I dined at Mona’s Roti several weeks back on a Monday.  I was searching for a Caribbean restaurant in Scarborough (I’d been craving for some jerk chicken ever since I discovered it recently).  Mona’s Roti restaurant popped up on Urbanspoon as one of the top rated Caribbean restaurants in Scarborough.

My First Paint Nite!

Paint Nite!

June 1 was already an eventful day already as you can tell with the plane pull in the morning and lunch with friends in the afternoon.  Sarah and I had bought a Groupon to go to Paint Nite.  I’d never been there before but have seen friends post about it here and there on facebook.

It was such a good deal!   Continue reading

Leslie Café

Located at 149B Ravel Road in North York

Hello typical Hong Kong style cafe!  After the very dehydrating plane pull on June 1 (see post here), I went for lunch with Richard and Mike.  Even though they didn’t participate in the plane pull, they showed up just to support me and my team.  Seriously, what wonderful friends I have! ^_^  They took me to Leslie Café which is an old favourite of Richard’s since it’s around his ‘hood.

Leslie Café is located on the corner of Finch and Leslie in North York.   Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Between

Toronto, Canada. July 2011

After a yummy and fun lunch at Toula for Summerlicious in 2011, Tracy and I explored the Toronto Harbourfront on a bright and hot summer day.  We walked by Sugar Beach, a Wave Deck, and this!  Who knew that there would be a lookalike Stonehenge monument standing there on the grassy ground near the shore in the middle of the city?

Ramen lunch at Niwatei Japanese Restaurant

Located at 3160 Steeles Ave East, Unit 2 in Markham

I haven’t seen Angel in a couple of years and we finally were able to schedule a day to have lunch together and catch up.  It’s been a while since those Saturday tutoring days!  Angel had been to Niwatei Japanese Restaurant for ramen before but I hadn’t, so I was excited to try out this restaurant that was located in J-town (where I’ve also had food from Shiso Tree Cafe and Izakaya Ju).   Continue reading
