Guu Izakaya [Defunct]

Located at 398 Church St in Toronto

Guu Izakaya is one of the first izakayas to gain attention and prominence in the Toronto food scene.  When it arrived in late 2009 — with its flagship restaurant located in Vancouver, Canada — many Torontonian foodies were extremely excited about its launch and anticipated a visit to this bustling restaurant.   Continue reading

Authentic Sichuan Cuisine at Shaanxi Restaurant

Located at 505 Hwy 7 E in Markham

I would never have guessed that this restaurant served such authentic and great-tasting Sichuan food!  My mom and I stopped by the Commerce Gate plaza for some brunch and were surprised at how authentic the food was.  Last summer, I travelled to Xi’an and three other cities in China as part of the Mon Sheong Youth Group for two weeks.   Continue reading

My friend has Lyme Disease

Back at a friend’s birthday celebration in 2012 where we wrote our dreams on paper balloons and launched them into the night sky. Yes, kind of like the scene in Tangled. : )

This is not a food post, but one that is more important to read about than food.  My friend Anna has been suffering from Lyme Disease for a couple of years now.  She first contracted the disease in 2008 from an infected tick bite.  Since then, her life has been flipped upside down and she can no longer be the happy, energetic, and healthy individual that she once was.   Continue reading

Izakaya Ju

Located at 3160 Steeles Ave E in Markham

Here’s another izakaya to try out!  Izakaya Ju is located in J-town in Markham which stands for Japan Town (think largest Japanese shopping centre in Toronto)!  The last time I was here, I tried out the ultra popular Shiso Tree Cafe for some delicious Italian and Japanese fusion pasta.   Continue reading

The Montreal Deli and Greek Grill [Defunct]

Located at 115 York Boulevard in Richmond Hill

There’s nothing like going for breakfast early in the morning with a friend to just catch up.  Betty and I tried out The Montreal Deli and Greek Grill yesterday and it was a no frills deli and grill place.

I hadn’t heard much about this restaurant at all before and didn’t even know that it was located in the densely-restaurant-populated area of York Boulevard in Richmond Hill Continue reading

The Best Alaskan King Crab Legs in the World — Victoria Harbour Restaurant (Hong Kong)

Alaskan King Crab Legs steamed on a bed of Egg Whites

I love my family.  I love my family that lives in Hong Kong.  Every time we visit them, we go out and indulge in some pretty spectacular meals.  I can’t forget the time we visited a seafood restaurant in Hong Kong and the whole meal was centered around the juiciest, biggest, and best tasting Alaskan king crab legs in the world!   Continue reading

My first time playing ESC-IT!

ESC-IT old logo

ESC-IT located at 175 West Beaver Creek, Unit 14 in Richmond Hill (old location)

I had noticed many of the friends on my Facebook list checking into a place called “ESC-IT” in the past couple of months.  When I clicked on the link to the Facebook page, it was categorized as an “entertainment service”.  At first, I thought it was a club, but it was also located uptown in Richmond Hill and I knew that a lot of these friends weren’t into clubbing and especially not in an uptown location so it definitely piqued my interest.   Continue reading

Dumplings Galore at Ding Tai Fung Shanghai Dim Sum

Located at 3255 Highway 7 East, Unit 18B (First Markham Place) in Markham

I went to Ding Tai Fung Shanghai Dim Sum this past weekend for a dumplings and dim sum feast.  For those of you that are wondering, this Ding Tai Fung restaurant does not belong to the world-renown Din Tai Fung restaurant (notice the subtle missing “g” in the first word?).  This restaurant that we chose to dine at resembles the popular restaurant very closely in that it also serves dumplings and xiao long baos, however it is not the ‘real deal’.   Continue reading
