Lamesa Filipino Kitchen

Located at 669 Queen St W in Toronto

This was my second visit to Lamesa Filipino Kitchen.  I distinctly remember the first time I visited this restaurant with my friends back in university.  We had chosen their prix fixe menu and for some reason thought it was a good idea to share the prix fixe (for one person) menu between all 6 of us.  I really wasn’t sure what we were thinking, but we all got a moderate taste (literally) of what the food was like.   Continue reading

Japas Japanese Tapas & Oyster Bar

Located in Koreantown at 692 Bloor St W in Toronto

Japas Japanese Tapas & Oyster Bar had a very good chance of being an amazing restaurant.  I mean, they serve Japanese tapas (small dishes of food to share) and oysters!  What more can you ask for?  However, the four of us had a very sour experience here at this restaurant.  Continue reading to understand why.

The night was young as we were seated at 7:30 p.m. and began poring over the menus, feeling excited and hungry, about the many choices of tapas and $1 Tuesday oysters.   Continue reading

Lambie Bubble Tea [Defunct]

Papaya milk

Lambie Bubble Tea is one of the ubiquitous restaurants along the First Markham Place outdoor mall strip.  There’s so many restaurants that reside on the perimeter that I still don’t know what exact restaurants and cuisines are available — I haven’t tried everything yet!   Continue reading

Guu Izakaya [Defunct]

Located at 398 Church St in Toronto

Guu Izakaya is one of the first izakayas to gain attention and prominence in the Toronto food scene.  When it arrived in late 2009 — with its flagship restaurant located in Vancouver, Canada — many Torontonian foodies were extremely excited about its launch and anticipated a visit to this bustling restaurant.   Continue reading

Authentic Sichuan Cuisine at Shaanxi Restaurant

Located at 505 Hwy 7 E in Markham

I would never have guessed that this restaurant served such authentic and great-tasting Sichuan food!  My mom and I stopped by the Commerce Gate plaza for some brunch and were surprised at how authentic the food was.  Last summer, I travelled to Xi’an and three other cities in China as part of the Mon Sheong Youth Group for two weeks.   Continue reading

My friend has Lyme Disease

Back at a friend’s birthday celebration in 2012 where we wrote our dreams on paper balloons and launched them into the night sky. Yes, kind of like the scene in Tangled. : )

This is not a food post, but one that is more important to read about than food.  My friend Anna has been suffering from Lyme Disease for a couple of years now.  She first contracted the disease in 2008 from an infected tick bite.  Since then, her life has been flipped upside down and she can no longer be the happy, energetic, and healthy individual that she once was.   Continue reading

Izakaya Ju

Located at 3160 Steeles Ave E in Markham

Here’s another izakaya to try out!  Izakaya Ju is located in J-town in Markham which stands for Japan Town (think largest Japanese shopping centre in Toronto)!  The last time I was here, I tried out the ultra popular Shiso Tree Cafe for some delicious Italian and Japanese fusion pasta.   Continue reading

The Montreal Deli and Greek Grill [Defunct]

Located at 115 York Boulevard in Richmond Hill

There’s nothing like going for breakfast early in the morning with a friend to just catch up.  Betty and I tried out The Montreal Deli and Greek Grill yesterday and it was a no frills deli and grill place.

I hadn’t heard much about this restaurant at all before and didn’t even know that it was located in the densely-restaurant-populated area of York Boulevard in Richmond Hill Continue reading
